Conference Information

These are exciting times for children, youth, and family (CYF) philanthropy. With education, immigration, agriculture/food and nutrition, energy and finance all scheduled for reauthorization and review, there are a myriad of opportunities for change that will directly impact children, youth, and families. Local, state/regional and national grantmakers all have an unprecedented opportunity to participate in the crafting and development of responsive policies, and to stake a claim for children in the big issues of the day.

Even with soaring budget deficits and decreased philanthropic resources, creative leaders in both the public and private sectors are experimenting with new approaches and working across systems to consider the confluence of factors that impact a child’s ability to succeed and a family’s ability to nurture their children and youth. Grantmakers are being encouraged to provide knowledge, resources and joint solutions in meeting the needs of vulnerable children, youth, and families. Effective grantmaking in this environment must reflect a knowledge and understanding of the interrelationship between good practice and policy and the important role of advocacy in building a more just and sustainable future for all children, youth, and families, particularly those living in low-income communities and communities of color.

The Grantmakers for Children, Youth, and Families (GCYF) 2010 Annual Conference, Children, Youth & Families: The Centerpiece of Change, will provide a forum for CYF grantmakers to learn more about policy, how to advocate and how to work together to effect change.

The event will take place October 10-13, 2010 in Washington, D.C., the site of our first annual conference 25 years ago. As we celebrate the milestone anniversary of this event—which has become the quintessential conference on CYF issues for the grantmaking community—we will provide a powerful voice for children, youth, and families on the key issues of the day.
