Host Event

A highlight of the Conference will be the Host Event at the Alcantar Sky Garden Plaza, a wonderful rooftop garden and reception area of the historic Plaza Theatre in downtown El Paso.  The Plaza Theatre and Sky Garden Plaza are a dazzlingly beautiful marriage of new construction and historic 1920’s architectural elements. The Host Event is the premier networking event of the Annual Conference. Attendees will enjoy light fare, beverages and entertainment in this stunning outdoor venue.

Off-Site Sessions

2:00pm – 6:00pm*

Off-site sessions will be conducted throughout the Paso del Norte region on Day 2 of the Conference. Through tours, site visits, presentations and special activities, each half-day session will showcase the region’s diverse and innovative philanthropic and non-profit initiatives working to strengthen supports and services for children, youth, and families. 2012 off-site sessions will explore:

  1. Improving Outcomes for At-Risk Youth: Lessons from the Region’s Migrant Farmworker Community
  2. Parent-Child Paradigm and The Arts: Two Innovative Strategies to Strengthen Early Childhood Intervention Outcomes
  3. Reducing Barriers to Student Achievement: The Texas Early College High School Initiative
  4. Serving Our Country:  Community Support and Strengthening Initiatives for Military Personnel and Families

Trustee Dinner

The Trustee dinner is an exclusive event for foundation trustees held in conjunction with the GCYF Annual Conference.  The dinner will build on the overall Conference theme through the lens of trustees, considering issues such as how trustees stay connected not only to the programmatic work of their foundations, but also to the people, communities and issues being addressed through their foundations’ investments.
